Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to host Moonshine Hollow Hike. Walk in the footsteps of moonshiners of decades gone by. Visit the remains of two old moonshine stills and learn about the very interesting, and sometimes tragic, history of our local moonshining activities -- Fridays, 10 a.m. at the State Park Visitor Center. Guests will meet an interpreter at the Visitor Center then drive to the hike location. This hike is over steep, uneven terrain and is difficult. Every Third Saturday Night (6pm) - The Ararat Ruritan Club will host its monthly Jackpot Bingo on every third Saturday night at 6:00pm. Cost is $20 for 20 games, coveralls $5 each PLUS door prizes and concessions. Each game pays out $50 with the cover-all payout at $150 if not won within 56 draws. This month's jackpot is $1,400.00, if the coverall is won within 57 draws. Free coveralls will be given to players bringing new/unused items to donate to the Redemption House of Surry. Items accepted are basic clothing and general hygiene items.
Doors open at 5:00 pm, with concessions which include hotdogs, chips, candy, soft drinks and bottled water.

Using water efficiently in the garden (Learning Garden). Water is essential for growing vegetables, but water can be a scarce resource expecially during the summer. Learn how to install a rain barrel and the most efficient ways to irrigate your garden. This workshop will also cover the use of rain gardens to collect storm runoff. Visit the remains of two old moonshine stills and learn about the very interesting, and sometimes tragic, history of our local moonshining activities -- Fridays, 10 a.m. at the State Park Visitor Center. Guests will meet an interpreter at the Visitor Center then drive to the hike location. This hike is over steep, uneven terrain and is difficult. Labor Day weekend 2022 marks the 13th annual Front Porch Fest. This annual event is held on the Front Porch of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Patrick County, Virginia, and will take place Sept 1-4, 2022 at Spirithaven Farm, 677 Spirithaven Lane, Stuart, VA 24171.

Visit the remains of two old moonshine stills and learn about the very interesting, and sometimes tragic, history of our local moonshining activities -- Fridays, 10 a.m. at the State Park Visitor Center. Guests will meet an interpreter at the Visitor Center then drive to the hike location. This hike is over steep, uneven terrain and is difficult. Gayle Wagoner is our new bookmobile coordinator! Tammy
Cope left to become the branch manager of the Martinsville
library in November (Congrats Tammy!) and Gayle took over
the job of driving Miss Lady (our bookmobile has a name, of
course) to our far flung patrons all over Patrick County. Gayle
is especially loving her interactions with the kids at the primary
and elementary schools! She already has tales to tell.
STORYTIME WITH SAM
Samantha (Sam) Edmondson is our new Children’s
Programmer at the Patrick Library. Sam had been working with
Gayle and Tammy on many children’s programs for the past
few years. Sam also started and runs our Lego program.
LIBRARY AND SEED GARDEN
The Patrick County Master Gardeners are really making our
library “bloom!” This spring they will begin planting in the newly
created Educational Garden, located next to our entryway and
their new Seed Library has already “taken root” in the building.

College for Older Adults is a semi-annual program lasting six weeks each spring and fall. We strive to offer cultural, intellectual, social, and fitness opportunities for adults ages 50 and older. If you are a lifelong learner, curious about the world around us, interested in trying new things or meeting new people, or enjoy planning outings and activities, then COA is perfect for you. The membership fee for COA is $60 and includes a wide array of weekly classes along with specialty one-time offerings. Some classes such as art/craft classes, make and takes, and field trips may have additional supply fees or transportation fees. When you register, you will select all classes you would like to take, and we will help you tally up your total cost.
