Board of Supervisors Approves Resolution on Mayo & Dan River Trail
November 22, 2011
The Patrick County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to renew funding from the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board for the Mayo River Trail and the Dan River Trail.
Voting against this resolution was Dr. Lock Boyce, Peters Creek District and Roger Hayden, Dan River District.
Voting in favor of this resolution was Karl Weiss, Blue Ridge District, Crystal Harris, Smith River District and Ron Knight, Mayo River District.
Speaking in favor of the trail was Adam Wright, of EMI in Stuart. Also Jimmy East, former Board of Supervisors from Peters Creek District, spoke in favor of the trails project.
Adam Wright said in meeting with representatives from 20 companies, with $1 billion in sales annually, they would consider recreational and educational benefits, such as the rail trail, when deciding to move to this County. He said we should keep our VDOT options open.
Dr. Boyce said, "I bet you never worked 12-14 hours a day, like most of my constituents."
Joanne Spangler, an EMI employee, said, "This man puts in more than 14 hours every day," and sometimes spends the night at the office.
