The route travels the crests, ridges, and valleys of five major mountain ranges, encompassing several geographic and vegetative zones ranging from 600 to more than 6,000 feet above sea level. It provides visitors with many varied vistas of scenic Appalachian landscapes ranging from forested ridgetops and mountain slopes to rural farm lands and urban areas. The Parkway offers a “ride-a-while, stop-a-while” experience that includes scenic pullouts, recreation areas, historic sites, and visitor contact stations. It is known nationally and internationally for its designed landscape as a scenic motorway. nps.gov/blri/

Shelter #4: Murders over moonshine rocked the town of Fayerdale in the 1920s and 30s, leaving a dying town remembered for tragedy rather than the mining operations that once made it a boom town. Moonshining (illegal whiskey making) was quite prevalent in and around the Fairy Stone State Park area in the early 1900s. Jealousy, greed, and competition often led to feuds, brawls, and even killings. "Moonshine Murders" reveals the events which sparked a number of these murders.
Due to the gruesome nature of this topic, the program is recommended for ages 15 and older.

Joel Venditti started playing guitar in 1977, earliest influences started with some Beatles and mid 70’s blues rock, like Allman Brothers, Mountain, Johnny Winter. It wasn’t until getting introduced to acoustic “campfire folk” like Rolling Stones, Flying Burrito Brothers, Grateful Dead, and many more until he started singing and trying out original compositions.
Joel thinks of himself as mainly a lead player, backup singer, occasional lead singing, writing and exploring multiple genres, from old country music to Frank Zappa. Joel started playing in the NRV and Roanoke areas around the early 2000s until moving to Fernandina Beach FL and living and performing there starting in 2013. Joel recently left Florida and moved back to Floyd a few years ago and says he’s really happy to be back here and playing in this unique and wonderful place he gets to call home !
Bob Grubel has been writing and performing music since his early years. Dipping into rock, blues, new age, soft jazz and standards Bob brings to life simple passions and reflections on how we live in this world with his gutsy baritone and funky/smooth piano leading the way. Bob has played in a variety of venues over the years. Bob has also released 13 cd’s since the late 1980’s, several of which are performing very well online. Bob has lived in Floyd since 1980. He has 2 daughters and shares his home with his beautiful partner Sandy Jahmi Burg.
Currently the two have merged their talents in 2nd Wind with occasional special guests to bring their love of song to the local Floyd music scene. Combining their original material with covers from past musical eras has given them the opportunity to share a somewhat unique duo experience. Date: September 19, 2026, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Don't miss Eulalie: Live at the Mabry Mill on Sunday, September 20, 2026!

????/?????: Pack a picnic (Alcoholic beverages prohibited per National Park policies).
????? ???????:
EULALIE is an old-time duo from Cleveland, Ohio and Stokes County, NC. They live and breathe heartfelt American roots music: vintage heart songs, fiddle tunes, old-time hymns, ballads, and country blues.
Stark, sweetly sentimental, or just plain fun, these old songs tell stories of people’s lives. Ron & Donna treat these treasures with the love and respect of honest, straightforward arrangements inspired by the old masters of porches, parlors, chicken coops and vaudeville stages.
With close, intertwining vocal harmonies and a song-centered approach, their arrangements featuring banjo, guitar and fiddle honor original sources while giving each performance an intimate, contemporary immediacy. The warm, approachable style of Eulalie’s performances and recordings move deftly from country blues to traditional ballads; from old-time hymns to heart-songs and ragtime…always favoring emotional honesty over irony.

Music at the Villa: Rosebud
Rosebud is a Floyd–based band rooted in the timeless spirit of the Grateful Dead, blending faithful covers with a growing catalog of original songs. Drawing inspiration from long-form improvisation, Rosebud stretches each tune into a living, breathing experience. Their sound drifts easily from deep-groove Americana into spacey breakdowns, exploratory jams, and cosmic detours that invite listeners along for the ride. Join us Saturday, October 31, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a Halloween evening in the meadow packed with spooky fun for the whole family!
We’re still planning and adding to the night, but here’s what we already have brewing…
TRICK-OR-TREATING:
Bring the kids in costume and make your way around the market collecting treats!
HAUNTED TRAIL:
When the sun starts going down, things in the meadow might get a little spooky. Brave the haunted trail… if you dare.
COSTUME CONTEST:
Come dressed to impress — spooky, funny, creative, completely ridiculous… we want to see it ALL! Prizes and contest details will be announced as we get closer.
GAMES & PRIZES:
We’ll have Halloween games, activities and chances to win prizes throughout the event.
LOCAL VENDORS:
Shop our vendors while you’re here! Expect handmade goods, baked treats, local products, art, and plenty of Halloween spirit.
FOOD + MORE TO COME:
We’re still working behind the scenes on even MORE for Halloween night, so consider this just the beginning.
This is Halloween in a meadow, after all. We might as well make it weird.
HALLOWEEN AT THE SUNSET MARKET:
Saturday, October 31, 2026.
The Sunset Market | Meadows of Dan, VA.
Come trick-or-treat. Wear the costume. Brave the trail. Play some games. Eat something good. Shop the vendors.
And keep watching the page because we’re definitely not done adding things yet.

Duncan was born in Marion, NC on March 28, 1951, but was raised in Hillsborough, NC. He graduated from Orange High School in 1969 and from The Technical Institute of Alamance in 1971 with an associate degree
in Technical Illustration. He worked for 26 years as a draftsman or designer and received 3 patents during this time. He moved with his wife, Jeannie and two sons, Mark and Adam, to Stokes County in January 1984 and
have called Stokes County home ever since. They remodeled a 1940s farmhouse, and Duncan created a studio in a tobacco pack house located on the property. In 1997, he began pursuing his passion as an artist full time.
Since then, he has created numerous paintings that have been printed as limited-edition prints. He works in mostly oil and watercolor. He has created many commission works for folks all over the state. Duncan enjoys
recreating history, be it county, city or personal history in a painting. He graduated from a picture framing class at Forsyth Technical College and now does custom framing for the public at his studio.
