Jordan T. Morrison & The Foothill Boys at The Star Theatre

Apr 10

Save the Date: Friday, April 10, 2026, 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Jordan Thomas Morrison is an American singer-songwriter whose sound blends neotraditional country and bluegrass with touches of folk and Southern rock. Rooted in tradition but delivered with fresh energy, his music carries the spirit of the mountains while speaking to modern audiences. He is most often backed by his four-piece band, The Foothill Boys, whose tight musicianship and authentic sound bring his songs to life on stage. Born and raised in the small mountain community of Woolwine in Patrick County, Virginia, Jordan still calls the Blue Ridge home. The rolling hills and winding backroads of Appalachia are more than scenery—they’re the heartbeat of his songwriting. Deeply influenced by the culture, faith, and hardworking people of his homeland, his music reflects a deep appreciation for tradition and a simpler, more intentional way of living. Often described as “an old soul,” Jordan embraces the timeless values and classic sounds that shaped him. And if you ask him about it, he’ll tell you with a smile, “I wouldn’t want it any other way.” Doors open at 7:00 PM. Music starts at 8:00 PM. Beer & wine available. Plus, all your favorite theatre snacks. Tickets through EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/jordan-t-morrison-the-foothill-boys-the-star-theatre-tickets-1983971984613

Apr 11

2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - Shelter #4: Murders over moonshine rocked the town of Fayerdale in the 1920s and 30s, leaving a dying town remembered for tragedy rather than the mining operations that once made it a boom town. Moonshining (illegal whiskey making) was quite prevalent in and around the Fairy Stone State Park area in the early 1900s. Jealousy, greed, and competition often led to feuds, brawls, and even killings. "Moonshine Murders" reveals the events which sparked a number of these murders. Due to the gruesome nature of this topic, the program is recommended for ages 15 and older.

Cake Testers are made from the cut off, so that no material is wasted. Broomcorn, a variety of sorghum, is the essential natural material for household cleaning because it is delicate enough to catch hair and smaller debris while being strong enough to bend without breaking. We will discuss broom folklore, history, and care for longevity. * Please keep in mind, broom making requires manual dexterity in both hands and feet. Participants should feel comfortable using a blunt knife and lighter. This workshop is considered beginner to medium level friendly and is for participants 13 and older. People Incorporated Receives $300,000 To Support Women-Owned Businesses

Normally occurs in June

People Incorporated Financial Services has been awarded $300,000 through the Commonwealth’s Capital for Communities Fund (CCCF) to support and empower women entrepreneurs with accessible financial products and coaching. Funding will also support existing business lending and technical assistance across the agency’s 16 city and county service area. “This funding allows us to expand access to much-needed capital to historically underserved populations, including women-owned businesses and low-income community members,” said People Incorporated Director of Community Economic Development Stephanie Lillard. “Women entrepreneurs continue to face barriers to capital needed to grow or start their businesses, and we hope this funding will help break down walls and support the start-up and expansion of women-owned businesses across the commonwealth.” The Federal Reserve’s 2022 Small Business Credit Survey showed that women-owned businesses frequently encounter barriers to obtaining capital to support and grow their businesses. People Incorporated established People Incorporated Financial Services in 2000 to meet the financing needs of disadvantaged individuals and entrepreneurs in Southwest Virginia and has since expanded to serve the Northern Piedmont, Northern Shenandoah Valley and Greater Prince William regions with its loan products and financial services. People Incorporated is proud to be the only Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) headquartered in Southwest Virginia. Visit our website to learn more about our business loans and financial services or give us a call at 276-619-2297!

People Incorporated Receives $300,000 To Support Women-Owned Businesses

Normally occurs in September
