Dec 20-There is a new cell tower built by AT&T in the Patrick Springs, VA neighborhood off South Mayo and Vernon Drive. Photo and story by Tom Bishop - Photo taken 12-20-11
This photo is of the new cell phone tower just off Vernon Drive, near the Patrick Spings Post Office and U. S. Route 58. It is also visable from the Piedmont Community Services office building.
It is an AT & T tower, which is 250 foot tall and is the lattice style. It will be the type which permits co-location by other Cellular Phone companies.
A 2nd new AT&T cell tower is just off South Fork Loop, on what was the Williams property and South Fork Farm.
A third AT & T tower is under construction in the Stella community of Patrick County.
Previously, the most recent cell tower build in Patrick County, VA was the on on Penn Store Road, approximately 1 mile from U. S. 58. This one has a "Christmas Tree look", which takes into account a historical site in the vicinity. It can be seen from U. S. 58 four-lane when traveling East at the Mt. Nebo Church.
The cell phone coverage on U. S. Route 58 between Stuart and Martinsville has been drastically improved and will only get better, with the construction of the 3 AT & T towers.
