Fluvanna County Administrator Jay Scudder resigned Wednesday evening after about one year on the job.
“While we wish the relationship with Mr. Scudder would have worked out to mutual benefit, the Board of Supervisors wishes Mr. Scudder all the best in his future endeavors, Chairman John Gooch said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.
“Over the next few weeks, I will be working directly with staff to restore confidence in our local government. Fluvanna County is at a turning point with a new high school coming on line, budget opportunities, and future development at Zion Crossroads to complement the success in Louisa County, Gooch added.
The press release said the board will soon begin “the process of finding a county administrator to match our strengths. Gooch and other board members reached Thursday declined to give further comment.
Fluvanna has experienced difficult and contentious budgeting in recent years in part due to the new high school, which has an estimated price tag of more than $70 million. Construction began in 2008 and is expected to conclude in 2012, supervisors said in May.
