Two incumbent delegates have brought in more than $2 million, making their House campaign seem more like a statewide race.
From The Roanoke Times
9th District House battle between Ward Armstrong, Charles Poindexter turns heated, costly.
Voters in the 9th House District are facing a choice between two incumbents who differ dramatically in personality, style and policy.
After Republicans carved up his district to create a new district in Northern Virginia, House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong, D-Henry County, moved north to his mother-in-law's home in Bassett to challenge Del. Charles Poindexter, R-Franklin County.
With a comfortable majority and few competitive House races elsewhere in the state, Republicans are spending heavily to help Poindexter take out the feisty Democratic leader.
The ensuing battle for the redrawn 9th — which includes most of Franklin County, western Henry County and all of Patrick County — has drawn more than $2 million in contributions, resulting in a barrage of television ads that has made it more closely resemble a statewide campaign.
Both men agree that the tough economy and high unemployment rate in Southside and Southwest Virginia pose challenges for the 9th District, but they disagree on the source and the solutions.
