Katie Slate Spears, 81, of Stuart, VA died Tuesday, November 01, 2011 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart, VA. She was born on May 16, 1930 in Patrick County, VA to the late Murray Slate and Etta Anderson Slate.

Mrs. Spears worked as a Chemistry Technician for E. I. DuPont, Inc. and retired after 38 years service. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Lee and Roger Wilkins of Ridgeway, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Zane Francis and Terry Spears of Ridgeway, VA; brother, Harold Slate of Stuart, VA; grandchildren, Tammy Vault and her husband, James, Kristy Wilkins Bryant, Robert Alex Spears and Madison Spears and great-grandchildren, Hunter Vault, McKenzie Vault, Dakota Vault, Nathan Bryant and Allison Bryant. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway, VA with Reverend Rick Slate officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Karen Lee Wilkins, 326 Church Street, Ridgeway, VA.
