A Stuart man died Sunday in a single-vehicle accident in Patrick County, according to the Virginia State Police.
Brewster Michael Scott, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Virginia 57, said Trooper R.E. Dillon.
According to Dillon, Scott was driving a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup east on Virginia 57 around 2:25 p.m. Sunday when he ran off the road to the right, ran off the road to the left, overcorrected and ran off the road to the right again. The truck struck a guardrail and overturned down an embankment, landing on its roof in a ditch, Dillon said.
Scott was not wearing a seat belt, the trooper said.
The accident happened near the intersection of Virginia 57 and Goose Market Loop, which is near Roberts Lighthouse Grill, Dillon said.
He said it appeared that Scott turned his attention away from the road for “a split second, causing him to run off the road at a low angle.
The truck was a total loss, the trooper said.
The Smith River Rescue Squad and the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash.
