Governor George Allen Stops At Stuart-Virginia 8/12/11 - Former Virginia Governor George Allen (and former Senator from Virginia) stopped by W & W Produce on August 12, 2011 on his campaign tour of Southwest Virginia, making other stops in Carroll County, Wythe and Bland Counties He is also making a stop in Bluefield, VA today. (Photos by Tom Bishop) In the photo are some of the local personalities from Stuart, Executive Director of the Patrick County Chamber, Mr. Litten of Moody Funeral, Mr. Casagrande, President of the local Post Card Collectors Club. Mr. Allen purchased some Moonshine Jelly and a bag of Patrick County produced peaches. Unfortunately, business owner, Darrell Worley, a long time supporter of Mr. Allen was out of town. Mr. Allen was interviewed live on Patrick County's WHEO 1270AM just a few minutes earlier today by morning radio talk show host Richard Rogers and Tom Bishop of the Chamber. He gave his cut on the deficit problems in Washington and his program for economic development of Virginia, that included expansion of oil exploration off the coast of Virginia. (Listen to future WHEO news programs for more details of this interview) When confronted with the need to make U. S. Route 58 four lane from Stuart to Hillsville, by Tom Bishop, he indicated his support for transportation improvements in the State of Virginia and gave suggested ways to finance new construction. Tom reminded him that Route 58 is now "federalized" and therefore eligible for Federal funding. While at W & W Produce Mr. Allen met some travelers from Norfolk, VA and two NC horse enthusiasts, who permitted him to post an "Allen For Senate" bumper sticker on their horse trailer. Mr. Allen was accompanied by his Press Secretary Bill Riggs and Executive Assistant Nathan Pick.
