Tom Bishop Speaks Up at the Town Council Meeting-Handicap Mail Drop

May 24, 2011
Tom Bishop spoke before the Town of Stuart Council meeting, seeking their support for a "drive-up mail drop" in the Town of Stuart. He said he has gone to Rep. Morgan Griffith's office seeking support.

Tom said the drive through mail drop would help the elderly and handicapped who cannot maneuver the post office steps. Bishop said he had been in contact with the U. S. Postal service about the fact there is no handicap accessibility, but had been told it was "grandfathered in" and can't have handicap access. Bishop said, the mail drop could be located somewhere else in the town. Support from the town and Rep. Griffith would help in the cause, Bishop, said. "I'd like to see the town get behind the issue," he said. Even Vesta Post Office, which is being considered for closing has a drive up mail drop. So does Patrick Springs. "I don't understand why it cannot be done," Bishop said, adding he has seen people fall or almost fall at the Stuart facility.
