Governor McDonnell’s Statement on Transportation Bill Passing House of Delegates RICHMOND—The Virginia House of Delegates overwhelmingly passed Governor Bob McDonnell’s Omnibus Transportation Funding Bill today 65-33. Governor McDonnell issued the following statement in response to the House’s bipartisan support for his proposal to inject $4 billion in funding to expand and maintain Virginia’s transportation system. “We took a major step forward today in our efforts to put the largest injection of funding into the Commonwealth’s transportation system in a generation. This bipartisan effort will accelerate more than 900 projects statewide and that will mean congestion relief, economic development and jobs in every corner of the Commonwealth. This proposal expedites responsible, pre-approved bonding authority to get projects moving now while interest rates and construction bids are at record lows. It will also create the innovative Virginia Transportation Infrastructure Bank to make it easier for localities and private-sector partners to invest their money in transportation improvements. Nearly 50 cities, transportation and business organizations and groups have endorsed this plan. I am pleased to see the strong bipartisan support in the House of Delegates today. This vote means new roads, bridges and mass transit projects getting started in the Commonwealth.
