45th Annual Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan Scheduled for September 14

Danbury, N.C. – The sound of marching bands, dance groups, and bluegrass music, the smell of kettle corn, hot dogs, and barbecue, and the view of a mountain river through leaves beginning to change into their fall colors; all evidence that the Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan will once again be the place to be on Saturday, September 14th at Moratock Park in Danbury, North Carolina. This one-day event held on the banks of the beautiful Dan River, the 45th Stokes Stomp will showcase the best in traditional and Americana music groups, visual arts and craft demonstrations, river activities, dance troupes, children’s activities, Spark Fitness Challenge, visual and performing arts, food trucks and vendors. A talented lineup of music and dance artists will be featured in the Main Stage area including The Allen Boys, One Fret Over, Unique Sound of the Mountains: Larry Sigmon & Martha Spencer, Dori Freeman, Laurelyn Dossett & Molly McGinn, Stokes Junior Mountain Music students, the North, South, and West Stokes Marching Bands, Miss Joyce’s Dance, CC Dance Company, and the Old Dominion Cloggers. Kid’s activities will also be in abundance at the 45th Stokes Stomp including supervised kayak and tube floats on the Dan River by the Dan River Company and the Tarheel Paddlers Association, face painting, children’s’ make and take craft booth, and kids 8 and older can take part in the Spark fitness challenge. The North Carolina Woodworker Outreach Program will also be offering free woodworking activities in the Children’s Area throughout the day. The Dan River Duck Race will take place on 5:30 p.m. with the 1st place winner receiving the coveted Rubber Ducky Trophy and two adult passes to Carolina Ziplines Canopy Tour, valued at $160, courtesy of Carolina Ziplines. 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive a gift card each from El Cabo Mexican Restaurante (2nd place) and Castle’s Deli (3rd place). This year’s Food Court promises to deliver with newcomers Party in a Pita, and longtime favorites Goodtimes Bar B Cue, Sidewalk Café, Baileytown Christian Church, and Smitty’s. A large selection of home baked goods will also be available. The 45th Stokes Stomp festivities will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14 with the Town of Danbury’s annual Stokes Stomp Parade with this year’s theme, “Gone Fishin’ on the Dan, Reeling in Arts & Music.” YVEDDI will once again provide a shuttle service from the Stokes County Government Center parking lot located at 1012 Main Street, Danbury, to the Stokes Stomp on Saturday from 11a.m. until 7 p.m. All riders are encouraged to make a stop at The Arts Place of Stokes along the way. Anyone making a purchase will be registered to win one of two $25 gift cards to be given away during the festival. The Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan is organized each year by the Stokes County Arts Council and remains a FREE Admission, FREE parking event thanks to sponsorship support provided by the Duke Energy Foundation, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, First National Bank, Deuterman Law Group, Edward Jones of Walnut Cove, Forsyth Technical Community College, NC Arts Council, Town of Danbury, General Dan Tubing, Artists Way Creations, Burroughs Funeral Home, Dan River Company, Industrial Fire & Safety, Tar Heel Paddlers Association, and Stokes County Economic Development. Safety, parking, medical, and maintenance support for the Stokes Stomp is provided by the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department, Stokes Public Works, Stokes County District Resource Center, Stokes County Sheriff’s Department, and Stokes County Emergency Medical Services.
