The Stokes County Arts Council presents Amanda Adams Gordon at the Apple Gallery, 500 Main Street, Danbury. Her exhibit of mixed media and photography is on display throughout the month of September.
Amanda Adams Gordon is a local mixed media artist and photographer and a native of Stokes County, having graduated as Valedictorian from North Stokes High School in 2000. Amanda went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and Teaching Licensure from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Gifted Education Certification from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Amanda is now a National Board Certified Art Teacher in her 16th year of teaching in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system, also serving as a Mentor, Teacher Leader, and A+ Magnet Coordinator. Amanda and her students have been recognized at the local and state levels for their accomplishments made In the A+ Magnet program.
As an artist, Amanda has exhibited in the Northwest Regional Photography Exhibit, Surry County Juried Art Exhibit, Stokes and Winston-Salem Fairs, the Diggs-Latham Arts Extravaganza, Delta Fine Arts Center Teacher Exhibit and previously in the Apple Gallery. She is best known for her pen and ink drawings, acrylic paintings, digital photography, and weaving with a focus on texture and composition.
Amanda also has an online presence on Google Photos, Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and Twitter. Along with her career in Art and Teaching, Amanda is active in her church as a singer, teacher, webmaster and bulletin designer and says more than anything she is defined by her faith. She also is a Board Member and Visual Arts Chairperson for the Stokes County Arts Council, which keeps her active volunteering for events, jurying artists and assisting with social media.
Amanda is married and has a large extended family. She also enjoys singing and playing string instruments, especially the mandolin, and was featured on CDs with local bluegrass and southern Gospel musicians in the early 2000s. Amanda would like to dedicate her exhibit in memory of her late grandmother, Fronia Gravely, and in honor of her late High School Art Teacher and Mentor, Rick Flanery.
An opening reception and artist meet and greet is being held Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Apple Gallery from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.stokesarts.org.
