A truly historical concert event is planned at The Reynolds Homestead at 2:30PM on Sunday, April 8, 2018 . The American Music Series presents “Family Music Traditions”, an old-time music concert featuring the talents and history of the families featuring 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation musicians from the Blackards, Shelors, and Pendletons of Patrick County, VA.
The Shelor and Blackard families are known for their musical contributions to the 1927 Original Bristol Sessions which are considered “The Big Bang” of American Country music! These recordings were influential in shaping the sounds and practices of early commercial country music and reverberate through the roots of contemporary American music even today!
Clay Shelor and Clay’s son, Dayne and daughters Charis and Jamie will represent the Shelor/Blackard families in the upcoming concert. Ron Pendleton, well known for his musicianship in the local and regional areas, will be representing the Pendleton family. Victor Furtado, an accomplished regional clawhammer banjoist, shares insights from his strong family music tradition. Robin Pendleton will share family history.
Tickets for the concert are $8.00 for ages 16 and older and may be purchased at the door or in advance by contacting the Reynolds Homestead, 463 Homestead Dr, Critz, VA, 276-694-7181. Ages 15 and under are admitted free of charge
