Regional Planning Organization. The WPPDC is a regional planning organization serving Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania counties; the cities of Danville and Martinsville; and the Town of Rocky Mount in Virginia.

Established in 1970, it is one of 21 state-designated planning districts in Virginia, created to encourage cooperation among local governments and facilitate regional planning for issues that extend beyond individual jurisdictions.

Key Activities:
Economic Development: Coordinating regional strategies to create jobs, diversify the economy, and improve living conditions

Transportation Planning: Addressing regional transportation needs and infrastructure improvements.

Legislative Coordination: Aligning local priorities with state and federal policies.

Stakeholder Engagement: Involving public officials, community leaders, workforce boards, educational institutions, and private-sector representatives in planning processes.

The WPPDC serves as a central hub for regional cooperation, helping member localities plan for the future while addressing challenges that affect the broader West Piedmont region.
