Reynolds Homestead and Chamber of Commerce Partner to Host Empty Bowls Soup Sale
February 24, 2021
Empty Bowls still a go
February 22, 2021 (Critz, VA) – This March would normally be
the month that the triennial Empty Bowls event to benefit the Patrick County
Food Bank would be held. But, of course, these times are anything but normal.
Not wanting the event to be canceled, the Reynolds Homestead
and the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to offer an Empty
Bowls Virtual Soup Sale on March 13 at the Stuart Rotary Memorial Building from
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is being held in memory of Joni Hunt,
past director of the Food Bank and tireless advocate for food security in the
county. Joni passed away from cancer in January of 2020. All proceeds
from the event will benefit the Food Bank, which has seen an increase in need
during the pandemic.
Local restaurants and organizations will be contributing
soups to the event which will be packaged in quarts and labeled with
ingredients. Primland, the Reynolds Homestead, and One Family Productions are
contributing soups, and more will be added before March 1. Each quart is $10.00
and a commemorative ceramic soup bowl will be given for every 2 quarts of soup
purchased.
Orders can be placed online at the Patrick County Chamber
website beginning Monday, March 1 through Thursday, March 11. For those who
wish to purchase tickets in person, these will be available at the Chamber (334
Patrick Avenue) on Monday-Thursday during regular business hours.
The event on March 13 will feature a drive in pickup service
to assure proper safety protocols. Purchasers should bring their receipt and a
volunteer will bring their orders out to the vehicle.
Questions about the event may be directed to Lisa Martin at
the Reynolds Homestead, martinlm@vt.edu.
