The Stokes County Arts Council is pleased to announce the opening of our upcoming photography exhibit
featuring Jonathan Riddle in the Apple Gallery during the month of May. An in-person opening will be held on
Friday, May 14, 2021, from 5:30p.m.-7:00p.m. in the Apple Gallery of the Stokes County Arts Council, 500 N.
Main Street, Danbury, North Carolina.
Riddle became interested in landscape photography as a teenager when he received an old Ricoh film camera as
a Christmas present. When he was 14, he won a local photography contest at the county fair in Charleston, SC,
where he grew up, and after that he said he was hooked. He is inspired by the photography of Ansel Adams and
has especially loved capturing creation around him with the grand scale and beauty scene in Ansel Adams’
style. Over the past decade, Riddle had the privilege of traveling throughout the United States and into Canada,
and he enjoyed documenting these journeys, capturing these moments, and photographing the incredible
landscapes.  Riddle is completely self-taught and has developed his skills through research and experience.
Riddle described his exhibit as East meets West, and said “you’ll find a combination of landscape and wildlife
photography focused here in North Carolina and Virginia, and in the US and Canadian Rockies (Wyoming,
Colorado, Montana, and Alberta, Canada). You’ll see stunning large format metal prints with especially vibrant
colors, some black and white prints that pull from my affinity for Ansel Adams, and canvas and framed prints
of areas like Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock, Linville Falls, Grayson Highlands, as well as Grand Teton and
Banff National Parks.”

In addition to photography, Riddle works as a graphic designer and videographer for Ridge Care Senior Living,
as well as runs his own freelance design agency, The Beehive Design Co. He is a musician and worship Pastor
at Grace Baptist Tabernacle. He and his wife, Emily, live in King, NC, and are expecting a son, their first child,
in June of this year.
This exhibit will be on display May 1-May 31 in the Apple Gallery. The Stokes County Arts Council is open to
the public Monday through Saturday, 9:00am-6:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm-5:00pm. For additional information
about the exhibit, please contact the Stokes County Arts Council at (336) 593-8159 or visit www.stokesarts.org.
